This is a proposal to retire the word mayhap in favor of maybe.

Archaic variant of perhaps. Adds nothing that maybe does not.

Mayhap is maybe with extra steps. It literally means the same thing — ‘may happen.’ Why carry two words when one is fine?

Literally no context requires the -hap suffix over the modern form. Retire.
