This is a proposal to retire the word hupeh in favor of Hubei.

Wade-Giles province. The pox that devastated Wuhan — current name, old spelling.

Hubei was ground zero for COVID-19. The world learned to pronounce Wuhan overnight. But journalists still wrote from ‘Hupeh province.’

The name is Hubei. Even tragedy doesn’t excuse bad romanization.
