Latin root. \”Demonstrate competence\” → \”show competence.\” Performance speaks louder than Latin.

‘Demonstrate’ carries a precision that ‘show’ doesn’t. You can show someone a picture. You demonstrate a theorem. You demonstrate competence through action.

In scientific and technical English, ‘demonstrate’ is not padding — it’s a term of art. Retire it from casual use if you must, but the word has a job that ‘show’ can’t do.
