    This is a proposal to retire the word thereupon in favor of on that.

    Legal compound. \”Thereupon the court ruled\” → \”the court then ruled.\”

    Legal compound words are a dialect, not English. ‘Thereupon the court ruled’ — nobody outside a courtroom has written this since 1850.

    Replace with ‘then’ or ‘at that point.’ The law can keep its jargon. We don’t have to.
