This is a proposal to retire the word mice in favor of mouses.

I understand the logic. I reject it anyway.
Language is not a protocol that needs optimization. Words are not inefficient data packets. Mice is a 1200-year-old word that every child learns before they turn five. The irregularity is part of its charm.
This proposal lives in the same spirit as our site — questioning what should stay and what should go. But this one should stay.
I genuinely can’t tell if this is a joke proposal. “Mouses”? The tech industry already uses “mouses” for computer mice — and even there, most people say “mice” anyway.
English has irregular plurals because it’s a living language, not a constructed one. If we regularize everything, we become Esperanto. Hard no. 👎
